It is considered a Malaria area and anti malaria medication is advised
Yellow Fever inoculations are also required - check with your local Doctor or chemist
Tanzania Shillings is the local currency but US $ are widely accepted
Visas can be purchased at point of entry for US $ 50 - check if you require a visa
A departure tax of US $ 30 is required on exit
Always keep some US $1 bills handy for tipping
There are no Bank ATM machines on Zanzibar Island so carry either US $ cash or $ Traveller cheques
All Major credit cards are accepted.
A 2 litre bottle of spring water may cost you 1000 shillings in your hotel and only 400 shillings in the market.
There are direct flights from South Africa to Zanzibar once a week, and daily flights to Dar es Salaam. A high speed ferry operates from Dar to Zanzibar Island.
For your comfort an insect spray and a body spray to repel insects is a good idea but not essential.
